Residential proxies

Residential proxies send your requests through IP addresses that consumer ISPs assign to homes. Use this list to compare providers by location, session type, and billing.

A residential proxy uses an address that belongs to a consumer internet provider. Sites that classify traffic often treat that address as a household connection rather than a server.

That difference matters for web scraping and for account work. Datacenter ranges are quicker to buy and easier to block. Compare datacenter proxies if your target does not score IP reputation.

How to choose

Decide session behavior before you compare brands. A rotating session hands you a new IP on a timer or on each request. A sticky session keeps the same IP for a window so a login, a cart, or a multi-step form can finish on one address.

Match billing to how you send traffic. Metered plans charge for data and fit bursty crawls. Port or slot pricing charges for a live endpoint and fits long-running browsers. If you cannot estimate volume, start with a small metered allotment and measure.

Check how deep geo targeting goes. Country is the baseline. City, state, or ASN targeting helps when a site localizes by more than a country code. Ask whether the filter is a real routing choice or only a label on a mixed pool.

Ask how the pool is sourced. A residential product should state that peers consent to share capacity, or that the provider has an ISP partnership. If that story is missing, treat the product as incomplete and keep looking.

Frequently asked questions

What are residential proxies?
Residential proxies are HTTP or SOCKS endpoints whose exit IPs belong to consumer internet providers. Your request leaves the network looking like it came from a household connection.
How do residential proxies differ from datacenter proxies?
Datacenter proxies exit from hosting networks. They are faster and cheaper for open targets. Residential IPs cost more and last longer on sites that reject hosting ranges. See datacenter proxies if speed is the only requirement.
How do residential proxies differ from ISP proxies?
ISP proxies are still residential-origin addresses, but they are usually static and assigned from an ISP datacenter or a dedicated circuit. Rotating residential products share a large pool and change IPs. ISP products keep one address so a session can stay put.
Why do many residential plans charge per GB?
The provider pays for peer or carrier capacity by traffic. Per-GB billing tracks that cost. It also stops idle ports from looking cheap while a heavy crawl runs in the background.
Are residential proxies legal and safe to use?
A proxy is a network tool. Legality depends on the target site terms and on local law. Prefer providers that document peer consent or ISP contracts. Do not use any proxy to break into accounts, hide abuse, or ignore robots rules you have agreed to follow.
